Ukraine and Austria have formalized a memorandum aimed at enhancing collaboration in the field of renewable hydrogen. This agreement was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The memorandum was signed by Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal, and Austria’s Federal Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism, Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer. Shmyhal explained that the document outlines plans for hydrogen production, the establishment of storage and transportation infrastructure, and attracting investments in this sector.
During the discussions, officials from both nations also explored additional bilateral agreements. Shmyhal emphasized that Austria hosts key manufacturers of energy equipment, which could be instrumental in revitalizing Ukraine’s energy sector.
He stated, “Our partners are ready to provide equipment from their thermal power plants to prepare for the upcoming heating season. We are currently evaluating this opportunity. We also appreciate the contribution to the Energy Support Fund, which totals €15.5 million.”
According to Shmyhal, there has been close cooperation between Ukrainian and Austrian businesses across various energy sectors. Austrian companies are already storing gas in Ukrainian facilities. Key priorities include expanding collaboration in Ukraine’s underground gas storage and joint gas extraction projects.
