Ukraine’s National Bank Stabilizes Dollar Exchange Rate Amid Historical Low

The National Bank of Ukraine intervened to prevent the dollar’s exchange rate from surpassing 44 hryvnias on the interbank currency market, while simultaneously setting a new historical low for the official rate.

As of March 6, the official exchange rate was established at 43.80 hryvnias per dollar, marking an increase of 9 kopecks from the previous day. This adjustment represents the second consecutive week where the official rate has reached a new low against the dollar.

On March 3, the exchange rate had already been adjusted to a historical minimum of 43.45 hryvnias per dollar, which was the first such change of the week.

According to Bloomberg, trading on the interbank market on March 4 concluded at 43.63 hryvnias per dollar, reflecting a decrease of 29 kopecks from the session’s opening level.

Analysts from the financial website Minfin noted that the National Bank is actively selling currency on the interbank market, which is contributing to the decline in exchange rates.

Notably, on October 3, 2023, the exchange rate experienced its first shift since July 21, 2022, after remaining stable at 36.57 hryvnias per dollar for over 14 months.

The National Bank of Ukraine has taken measures to stabilize the dollar exchange rate, preventing it from exceeding 44 hryvnias while setting a new official low. Recent trading indicates a significant decrease in the dollar's value against the hryvnia, reflecting ongoing market adjustments.
