Russia Increases Military Personnel to Over 2.3 Million

On March 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree establishing the authorized strength of the Russian Armed Forces at over 2.3 million personnel. This significant increase reflects ongoing military strategies amid heightened geopolitical tensions.

The official document, published on the Russian government’s legal acts website, specifies that the total personnel count is set at 2,391,770, which includes 1,502,640 military service members.

This new directive takes effect immediately upon signing by the president. Previously, a decree dated September 16, 2024, indicated that the authorized military strength was 2,389,130, comprising 1,500,000 active-duty soldiers.

The increase in military personnel is part of a broader strategy that underscores Russia’s commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities in light of recent global security challenges.

President Putin's recent decree raises the authorized strength of the Russian military to over 2.3 million personnel, reflecting ongoing defense strategies amid global tensions. This move marks a notable shift from previous personnel levels, emphasizing Russia's focus on military readiness.
