The ongoing conflict in Iran is drawing the focus of world leaders away from Russian aggression and depleting military resources that could otherwise be allocated to Ukraine.
According to Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, a large-scale military operation in the Middle East demands substantial resources, particularly cruise missiles and air defense systems. This situation directly limits the ability of partner nations to assist the Ukrainian armed forces.
“What has been utilized will certainly not be available for transfer or even sale to Ukraine. This is a regrettable but unavoidable outcome,” Sikorski stated.
In addition to the logistical challenges, Sikorski noted that the conflict is shifting the focus of international politics. He emphasized the importance for Poland, as a neighbor to Ukraine, to ensure that the world does not forget the significance of Ukraine’s heroic defense.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that a prolonged confrontation in Iran could lead to a shortage of specific weaponry for partner nations. “If there is a long war, then our Middle Eastern partners will face a deficit in air defense systems. You can see that they are using air defense against Shahed drones,” he explained.
However, he added that there have been no indications of a reduction in PAC-3 missile supplies for Ukraine at this time.
The conflict in Iran is impacting global military resources and attention, affecting support for Ukraine. Polish officials highlight the challenges posed by this diversion, emphasizing the need for continued focus on Ukraine's defense.
