Ukraine Reports Over 213,000 War Crimes Linked to Russian Forces

As of early March 2026, Ukraine has documented approximately 213,200 incidents of war crimes allegedly committed by Russian military personnel. According to Taras Semkiv, head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in Armed Conflict at the Office of the Prosecutor General, 242 Russians have already been convicted in court, with 22 of those sentences delivered in person.

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, authorities have identified 1,127 suspects, with 809 facing charges and 242 already convicted. Among the suspects, 30 are prisoners of war, 27 of whom have been formally charged. The indictments against these individuals have been submitted to the courts, resulting in 22 convictions.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reports that the majority of documented war crimes are associated with shelling incidents that result in civilian casualties. Semkiv noted the evolving nature of these attacks, particularly the technological advancements and weaponry used by Russian forces.

“Currently, we are observing the use of drones, especially FPV drones, which are increasingly targeting areas near the front lines. Civilians frequently find themselves in the crosshairs of these attacks,” Semkiv explained. He emphasized that while such drone usage was less prevalent at the war’s outset, the frequency of these incidents has surged in recent years. Presently, the tally of drone strikes violating international humanitarian law has reached into the thousands, with reports of these occurrences arriving on a daily basis.

Ukraine has reported a staggering number of war crimes attributed to Russian forces, highlighting the increasing use of advanced weaponry, particularly drones, in these incidents. The ongoing documentation and prosecution efforts reflect the complexities of accountability in the context of armed conflict.
