As March approaches, Ukraine is bracing for a mix of chilly temperatures and wet snow, according to meteorologist Ihor Kibalchych. The forecast indicates that while the start of the month may feel slightly warmer than usual, significant cold spells are on the horizon.
Kibalchych noted that the first days of March could bring rain and wet snow, with melting snow leading to localized fog. However, a notable drop in temperatures is expected from March 9 to 13, particularly in the northern and eastern regions, where nighttime temperatures could plunge to between -10°C and -13°C, while daytime highs hover around the freezing mark.
Following this cold snap, temperatures are projected to gradually rise from March 17 to 19, especially in the western and southern parts of the country. This warming trend will likely be accompanied by rain, and at times, wet snow.
By the third decade of March, a more consistent rise in temperatures above freezing is anticipated. Kibalchych highlighted that the warmest conditions will be found in the extreme west and south of Ukraine.
Despite the expected precipitation, Kibalchych warned that some areas might experience flooding. Overall, the amount of rainfall and average temperatures are expected to align closely with long-term averages, with the western and southern regions possibly seeing temperatures 1-2 degrees above normal.
According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the average monthly temperature for March is projected to range from +1°C to +7°C, with precipitation levels expected to reach 80-100% of the norm.
Ukraine's weather forecast for March indicates a mix of cold temperatures and wet snow, with a gradual warming trend expected later in the month. Meteorologists predict that while some areas may face flooding, overall conditions will align with historical averages.
