Hungarian PM Orban Accuses Ukraine of Interfering in Domestic Politics

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has sent an open letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing Ukraine of attempting to influence Hungary’s upcoming elections.

In his letter, Orban claimed that for four years, Zelensky has been working to drag Hungary into the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, allegedly with the support of Brussels and the Hungarian opposition.

Orban further asserted that Ukraine, Brussels, and the Hungarian opposition are coordinating efforts to install a pro-Ukrainian government in Hungary.

He criticized Ukraine for blocking the Druzhba oil pipeline, which is crucial for Hungary’s energy supply, stating that such actions undermine Hungary’s interests and threaten the energy security of Hungarian families.

The Prime Minister urged Ukraine to reconsider its policies towards Hungary, emphasizing that he does not bear responsibility for Ukraine’s current situation.

“We sympathize with the Ukrainian people, but we do not wish to participate in the war. We do not want to finance military efforts or pay more for energy resources,” Orban added.

He concluded by calling for the reopening of the Druzhba pipeline and urged Ukraine to refrain from further actions that jeopardize Hungary’s energy security.

The political crisis between Ukraine and Hungary has escalated recently, particularly regarding the Druzhba pipeline, which has faced disruptions due to attacks from Moscow, affecting energy supplies to Hungary and Slovakia.

Orban has accused Kyiv of being unwilling to restore the pipeline’s operation, citing political motivations for the delay.

In response, Zelensky suggested that Orban negotiate an energy truce with Moscow if he has concerns about the current situation.

Despite ongoing tensions, the Ukrainian side has proposed a compromise to resolve the issues surrounding the Druzhba pipeline.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Ukraine of attempting to influence Hungary's elections and criticized the blockade of the Druzhba oil pipeline. The political tensions have escalated amid ongoing energy supply issues, with both countries seeking resolution.
