The Ukrainian Air Force has initiated an internal investigation concerning potential corruption involving Colonel Andrii Ukrainets, the logistics commander. This action follows recent allegations related to misconduct in the procurement process for aircraft shelters.
According to a statement from the Air Force Command, the investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged violations. The command expressed its commitment to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies, providing all necessary information and documentation to ascertain the facts of the case.
In the announcement, the Air Force reiterated that any officials implicated in unlawful activities will face accountability under Ukrainian law if found guilty. The statement underscores the command’s stance against corruption.
Recent developments revealed that Colonel Ukrainets was implicated in a corruption scheme during the construction of aircraft shelters. Alongside him, Volodymyr Kompanichenko, head of the Security Service in the Zhytomyr region, was also identified in the investigation. Law enforcement agencies apprehended individuals involved in the scheme during an attempted bribe on February 25, seizing approximately $320,000.
Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko commented that the documentation of the corrupt activities related to the construction of the shelters took nearly two months, highlighting the challenges of maintaining confidentiality throughout the investigation.
