Former Norwegian Prime Minister Turbjørn Jagland has reportedly been hospitalized following an alleged suicide attempt linked to the ongoing investigation into his connections with Jeffrey Epstein. Sources indicate that Jagland’s condition is serious, although details regarding his treatment remain undisclosed.
On February 12, Jagland faced charges of gross corruption related to his dealings with Epstein. That same day, law enforcement conducted searches at his properties, including an apartment in Oslo and a house in Risør.
The Norwegian financial investigation authority had previously requested the Council of Europe to lift Jagland’s immunity, which was revoked just one day before the police raids.
Investigators have revealed that Jagland and his family utilized Epstein’s apartments in Paris and New York multiple times between 2011 and 2018, in addition to staying at his Florida villa. Reports also allege that Epstein covered transportation costs for six adults during one trip, while Jagland accepted an offer to cover expenses for another planned trip to the Caribbean that ultimately did not occur.
Furthermore, the investigation suggests that Jagland sought Epstein’s assistance regarding a bank loan, although there is no confirmation that any help was provided.
In response to the unfolding situation, Reydun Chiellini Nybe, the Secretary General of the Norwegian Association of Editors, stated that no agreement existed with Jagland’s attorney to suppress information. She emphasized that editors were provided with background information solely for assessing the situation from an ethical standpoint, disputing the media’s portrayal of the events.
The Epstein scandal has emerged as one of the most significant controversies globally, highlighting extensive sexual exploitation of minors and the financier’s connections with influential figures across politics, business, and entertainment.
