Ukraine’s Air Force Intercepts Majority of Attacks in Overnight Assault

In the early hours of February 22, Ukraine’s Air Force reported a coordinated assault on critical infrastructure, resulting in the interception of a significant number of aerial threats. A total of 345 aerial attack vehicles were recorded, with 33 missiles and 274 drones successfully neutralized or suppressed.

The primary areas targeted included Kyiv, Odesa, Kirovohrad, and Poltava regions. The types of missiles involved in the assault were varied, highlighting the complexity of the attack.

  • Four anti-ship missiles, identified as Zircon, were launched, with two intercepted.
  • Twenty-two ballistic missiles, categorized as Iskander-M/S-400, saw eight interceptions.
  • Eighteen cruise missiles, designated as Kh-101, had 17 intercepted.
  • Two cruise missiles labeled Iskander-K were both neutralized.
  • Four guided aviation missiles, known as Kh-59/69, had two interceptions.
  • Out of 297 drones deployed, 274 were successfully intercepted.

According to the Air Force, there were confirmed strikes from 14 missiles and 23 attack drones across 14 locations, with debris from drones falling in five areas. Further details regarding some of the hostile missiles are still being clarified.

This incident follows a morning attack on February 22 involving Shahed drones, which resulted in damage to energy infrastructure in Mykolaiv.
