Trump to Visit China for Trade Discussions

U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit China from March 31 to April 1 for an official meeting primarily focused on trade relations with the country. This information was confirmed by a White House official, as reported by Reuters.

The discussions between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to center on extending the current trade truce, which has allowed both nations to avoid escalating tariffs on their trade exchanges.

This visit will mark the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since October. As of now, the Chinese government has not officially confirmed the visit, according to Reuters.

Trump last met with Xi on October 30 in South Korea during a five-day tour of Asia, where they agreed on a trade truce. At that time, the U.S. decided to reduce certain tariffs on Chinese goods related to fentanyl from 20% to 10%.

Following that meeting, Trump described the discussions as “fantastic” and indicated that many decisions had been made. He also announced plans for his upcoming visit to China, stating, “I will go to China in April, and Xi will come here a little later.”

Recently, reports have emerged indicating that Xi raised the issue of a $11.1 billion arms sale from the U.S. to Taiwan during a conversation with Trump.

This will be Trump’s first visit to China since 2017.

President Trump is set to visit China to discuss trade relations, focusing on extending a trade truce. This meeting will be the first between the leaders since October 2018 and follows previous agreements on tariffs.
