The European Union has recognized Ukraine’s response to humanitarian crises as a valuable model for other nations. This acknowledgment was made by European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, during a recent visit to Ukraine.
Lenarčič emphasized the significance of Ukraine’s resilience, stating, “The experience of Ukraine is indeed very valuable. It serves as a good example for us to follow. We can learn a lot from the Ukrainians due to your determination.” He noted his visit to several resilience centers, which he described as unique facilities that provide essential services.
According to Lenarčič, these centers are equipped to accommodate hundreds of individuals, offering food, electricity, social assistance, and psychological support. He remarked, “This is very important and instructive for us. We are already exchanging best practices. You should know that Ukraine is not only receiving our support in civil protection but is also contributing to it.”
Since joining the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Ukraine has provided nine response assets to the European Civil Protection Fund. These include emergency medical teams, decontamination units, wildfire response teams, and urban search and rescue services.
Lenarčič highlighted Ukraine’s contributions, particularly its deployment of a search and rescue team to Turkey during the earthquake in 2023. He concluded, “This demonstrates that we have much to learn from you, and we are already learning a lot.”
The European Union has praised Ukraine's humanitarian response capabilities, highlighting the country's resilience and contributions to civil protection efforts. European Commissioner Janez Lenarčič noted the importance of sharing best practices and acknowledged Ukraine's support in various emergency situations.
