Ukraine Prepares for Major Road Repairs as Weather Permits

Ukraine is set to initiate extensive road repairs once weather conditions allow, according to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. She made this announcement via her Telegram channel, emphasizing the urgency of the repairs.

Svyrydenko has instructed Vice Prime Minister Oleksii Kubeli and the State Agency for Restoration to ensure readiness for the maintenance of public roads. The focus will be on key routes vital for defense logistics, community services, and critical infrastructure operations.

She highlighted that funding for road repairs is allocated in the state budget for 2026, with the government actively seeking additional financial resources.

“The state budget for 2026 includes provisions for road repairs. The government is working on securing additional funding,” Svyrydenko stated.

Earlier, Serhii Sukhomlyn, head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration, reported that the planned budget for road financing in 2026 is set at 8.494 billion UAH, which is over 5 billion UAH less than the previous year. In 2022, the agency received 13.934 billion UAH for road repairs and maintenance.

On February 15, many drivers expressed concerns about the poor condition of Ukrainian roads, describing them as filled with large potholes, leading to speeds as low as 20 km/h in some areas.

Traffic Conditions in Kyiv

On February 16, reports indicated a traffic jam crisis in Kyiv due to snow and ice, particularly on inclines and declines, resulting in numerous accidents as vehicles struggled on icy roads.

Earlier, on January 8, severe weather conditions led to traffic restrictions in the Rivne and Zhytomyr regions.
