Emergency Response Headquarters Activated in Ukraine Due to Severe Weather Conditions

In response to deteriorating weather conditions, Ukraine’s State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure announced the activation of an emergency response headquarters on February 18. This initiative aims to address the anticipated severe meteorological phenomena affecting most of the country.

According to the agency, significant weather disruptions are expected across the majority of Ukraine, with the exception of the western regions. The Odessa region is predicted to experience the most intense precipitation, including freezing rain and strong gusty winds, prompting an orange-level warning for hazardous conditions.

Other areas, including Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Sumy, are forecasted to see substantial snowfall and rainfall. Wind gusts in southern, central, and eastern regions may reach speeds of 15 to 20 m/s, contributing to hazardous road conditions due to ice.

The emergency response headquarters will operate around the clock to ensure safe travel and coordinate rescue services. It comprises representatives from the Restoration Agency, the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and the State Transport Safety Agency. The headquarters’ primary objective is to respond swiftly to threats and manage complications affecting road traffic.

Additionally, the agency has established a 24-hour hotline for citizens, providing information on road conditions and travel advisories. For updates regarding the status of public roads, individuals can contact +38 067 400 60 80.

The State Emergency Service has issued warnings about the challenging weather conditions expected across various regions, including snow, rain, ice, and strong winds.
