Moldova Detains Father for Illegally Taking Daughter from Ukraine

A 43-year-old man has been detained in Moldova after illegally taking his three-year-old daughter from Ukraine several months ago. The incident occurred following a family conflict and divorce proceedings with the child’s mother.

The Moldovan General Inspectorate for Migration (IGM) reported that the father abducted the child from a playground in October 2025. Following the abduction, Ukrainian authorities issued a search warrant for the child.

Recently, both the girl and her father were located in the Moldovan city of Cahul. The child has since been returned to her mother, and officials confirmed that she is safe and in good health.

The father has been charged with child abduction and is currently held in a police detention facility in Chișinău. Authorities have initiated extradition proceedings to return him to Ukraine.

A man has been detained in Moldova for abducting his daughter from Ukraine. The child has been safely returned to her mother while extradition proceedings for the father are underway.
