Ukrainian military forces successfully reclaimed more than 200 square kilometers of territory from occupying forces last week, marking their most significant advance in two and a half years.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), between February 11 and 15, Ukrainian defenders retook 201 square kilometers of land. This recovery highlights a notable shift in the ongoing conflict.
Reports from AFP indicate that Ukrainian troops capitalized on the disruption of Starlink terminals used by Russian soldiers, which impeded their communication and operational capabilities.
Analysts noted that the area regained by Ukraine is nearly equivalent to the total land seized by Russian forces throughout December. This recent recovery represents the largest territory reclaimed by Ukrainian forces in such a brief timeframe since the counteroffensive began in June 2023.
“These Ukrainian counterattacks likely leverage the recent blockage of Russian access to Starlink, which, according to Russian military correspondents, is causing issues with communication and troop management on the battlefield,” stated the ISW.
Ukrainian forces have achieved a significant territorial recovery, reclaiming over 200 square kilometers from Russian control. This development is attributed to strategic advantages, including disrupted communication for Russian troops.
