The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted strikes on weapons depots and rocket installations belonging to Hezbollah in several locations across southern Lebanon. This action is reported to be a violation of the ceasefire agreements established between Israel and Lebanon, posing a risk to the civilian population in the region.
According to IDF statements, Hezbollah militants are allegedly attempting to restore their terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon with the intent of harming Israeli civilians. The IDF emphasizes that its operations are aimed at eliminating any threats to Israel.
On January 6, Israeli Air Forces executed a series of strikes on targets in southern and eastern Lebanon, including the destruction of a building in Sidon, the country’s third-largest city. This military action occurred just days before a scheduled report from the Lebanese military command to the government regarding the progress of disarming Hezbollah militants.
The disarmament process of Hezbollah and other groups has been a consequence of a 14-month war between Israel and Hezbollah, which concluded in November 2024. The conflict began on October 8, 2023, when Lebanese militants launched attacks on Israel in solidarity with Hamas. In response, Israel initiated a large-scale air campaign and ground invasion in September 2024, significantly weakening Hezbollah’s capabilities and resulting in the elimination of much of its leadership.
Despite a ceasefire brokered by the United States, Israel continues to carry out regular airstrikes primarily targeting Hezbollah members. According to the United Nations Human Rights Office, these strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 127 civilians since the official end of the active phase of the war.
