Ukrainian Military Reports Russian Casualties Exceed 1.25 Million

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on February 14 that Russian military losses have reached approximately 1,252,020 personnel since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine. In the past day alone, Russia’s military is estimated to have lost around 1,070 soldiers.

According to the latest data, Russian forces have also suffered significant losses in military equipment, including:

  • Tanks: 11,668 (+1 in the last day)
  • Armored fighting vehicles: 24,031 (+3)
  • Artillery systems: 37,282 (+28)
  • Multiple launch rocket systems: 1,645 (+3)
  • Tactical drones: 134,306 (+914)
  • Naval vessels: 29 (+1)
  • Vehicles and fuel tankers: 78,388 (+120)
  • Specialized equipment: 4,071 (+1)

Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi indicated that in January alone, Russian casualties from killed and severely wounded personnel exceeded 31,700, surpassing the number of reinforcements entering the Russian military.

Russia has not disclosed its military losses officially, with the last reported figure from September 2022 indicating 5,937 fatalities. Meanwhile, independent journalists from the Russian outlet Mediazona, along with the BBC’s Russian service and volunteer teams, have identified over 165,600 names of Russian soldiers killed in the conflict since February 2022, although they caution that the list is not exhaustive.

Estimates from international organizations and intelligence agencies suggest that the total number of Russian casualties (both wounded and killed) could be significantly higher. A NATO official, speaking anonymously in December 2025, stated that the number might approach 1.15 million, with daily losses averaging around 1,100 in November.

Ukraine has also refrained from disclosing its own casualty figures, with President Volodymyr Zelensky stating that such information will be released post-conflict. However, he has shared that as of early February 2026, Ukraine has lost 55,000 soldiers in the war since February 2022.

Zelensky remarked, “The official number of soldiers killed in Ukraine, whether professional or conscripted, stands at 55,000,” adding that there are many individuals classified as missing.

On January 13, 2025, Commander Syrskyi noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to reduce personnel losses by 13% that year, although he did not provide specific details regarding Ukrainian casualties.

The Ukrainian military has reported that Russian casualties have surpassed 1.25 million since the conflict began. Recent estimates indicate significant losses in personnel and military equipment, while independent sources have documented over 165,600 Russian soldiers killed.
