Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Confirms U.S. Readiness to Ratify Security Guarantees

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that he has received information from the United States regarding its readiness to ratify security guarantees in Congress. This statement was relayed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sybiha emphasized that these guarantees would be legally binding, marking a significant milestone in Ukraine’s history. He indicated that the bilateral guarantee project is nearly finalized.

“The second key element of the security architecture is military presence backed by the U.S. Without the role of the United States, an effective security system in Europe is impossible,” stated Sybiha.

The Foreign Minister noted that Ukraine’s strategic goal is to deplete Russia’s economic and military capabilities. He asserted that the optimal outcome would involve simultaneous weakening of both aspects of Russia’s power.

On January 25, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the bilateral security guarantee document from the U.S. was fully prepared. He mentioned that specific security guarantees are essential for Ukraine to end the ongoing conflict and prevent future ones.

“We expect our partners to be ready to provide a date and place for signing. After that, the document will be ratified by the U.S. Congress and the Ukrainian parliament,” the President said.

On February 11, Zelensky revealed that Kyiv had accepted Washington’s proposal to hold another round of negotiations between Ukrainian and American delegations in the U.S. the following week, aimed at addressing the ongoing war with Russia.

Ukrainian officials confirmed the U.S. is prepared to ratify security guarantees, marking a historic step for Ukraine. Ongoing negotiations are set to continue as both nations seek to solidify these agreements.
