Ukraine Plans Gradual Easing of COVID-19 Restrictions

Ukraine is preparing to gradually lift its COVID-19 restrictions, following a detailed review of the necessary stages. This decision was discussed during a meeting involving President Volodymyr Zelensky and officials responsible for managing the pandemic response.

During the meeting, officials noted that the upcoming May holidays present a significant risk for gatherings that could facilitate the virus’s spread. In response, police will deploy patrols in parks to discourage large gatherings during this period.

Border authorities reported an increase in the number of individuals downloading the “Diia” app, which assists with self-isolation during the quarantine. Of the over 7,000 citizens who entered Ukraine in the past day, approximately 65% have installed the application.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal highlighted a rise in the number of recoveries from COVID-19 across the country. On May 1, Ukraine recorded 455 new cases of the virus, with 11 fatalities and 175 recoveries reported in the previous day.

As of 9:00 AM on May 1, Ukraine has confirmed a total of 10,861 laboratory cases of COVID-19, including 272 deaths and 1,413 recoveries.

Ukraine is set to gradually ease COVID-19 restrictions as officials address potential risks associated with upcoming holidays. The country has reported an increase in recoveries, although new cases and fatalities continue to emerge.
