Zelensky Discusses Security Partnership with Jordan’s King Abdullah II

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with King Abdullah II of Jordan on March 29 during his visit to Amman. The leaders discussed potential security partnerships and the overall situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

Zelensky emphasized Ukraine’s openness to collaboration aimed at enhancing defenses against drone and missile attacks. He noted that, based on Ukraine’s experience, a unified defense system is crucial for protecting both people and infrastructure.

“We have this system because, for the past five years of full-scale war, we have been forced to combat constant Russian strikes, including those using Iranian drones. It is vital that those to whom we offer our expertise can also assist us in strengthening our defenses. I thank His Majesty for the meeting and for his openness to dialogue,” Zelensky added.

The Jordanian royal court previously announced the meeting, where King Abdullah II reiterated his condemnation of Iranian attacks on Jordan and other Arab nations. He highlighted the serious risks posed by the ongoing conflict and the economic burdens it places on the region and the world.

Additionally, the leaders discussed Jordanian-Ukrainian relations and ways to further strengthen their ties. Zelensky arrived in Jordan on the afternoon of March 29 as part of his tour of Middle Eastern countries. Earlier, he visited Qatar, where agreements were made for a mutually beneficial defense partnership lasting at least ten years. Prior to that, Ukraine and Saudi Arabia signed a cooperation agreement in the defense sector.
