Ukrainian President Warns of Potential Terrorist Threats Following Lviv Attack

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced ongoing investigations into a terrorist attack that occurred in Lviv, highlighting concerns over future threats from Russia. The president’s remarks come in the wake of a deadly incident that left one police officer dead and several others injured.

According to Zelensky, intelligence reports indicate that Russian forces are preparing for further attacks aimed at destabilizing Ukraine. He emphasized the need for heightened security measures and community involvement to mitigate these risks.

“We must enhance our protective measures and engage local leaders and government institutions at all levels to reduce Russian capabilities for organizing terrorist acts and sabotage within Ukraine,” Zelensky stated. He underscored the importance of collective action in countering these threats.

The president provided updates from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, detailing the investigation into the Lviv attack, which involved two explosions, the second of which occurred when emergency services arrived on the scene. A total of 25 individuals sustained injuries, with one police officer, aged 23, tragically losing her life. Zelensky expressed his condolences to the officer’s family and confirmed that medical assistance is being provided to the injured, some of whom are in critical condition.

Currently, authorities are analyzing the circumstances surrounding the attack, with Zelensky noting that numerous facts have already emerged. He revealed that the perpetrators were recruited via Telegram and that the organization of the attack was linked to Russian operatives. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police of Ukraine, and the Security Service of Ukraine are expected to release further details regarding the incident.

“I have instructed our agencies to develop measures to prevent similar crimes in the future. Our law enforcement has experience in countering such recruitment efforts, having successfully thwarted dozens of similar situations,” Zelensky added.

Details of the Lviv Attack

On the night of February 22, a series of powerful explosions rocked the center of Lviv, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The police later released footage showing the planting of a bomb and the arrest of a suspect, identified as a 33-year-old woman from the Rivne region.

According to the National Police, the woman was instructed by a so-called “curator” from Russian intelligence to manufacture improvised explosive devices and place them in predetermined locations.

The Security Service of Ukraine is currently conducting a pre-trial investigation into the case, with the most severe charges potentially leading to life imprisonment.
