A 31-year-old Ukrainian man was fatally stabbed in Cork, Ireland, on Monday evening while leaving his home to purchase groceries for his family. The incident occurred around 8:00 PM local time on Lower John Street.
The victim had lived in Ireland for most of his adult life, despite originally being from Ukraine. Authorities believe the attack was unprovoked.
Despite sustaining serious injuries, the man managed to walk approximately 100 meters back to his residence at Camden Court to seek help. He lost a significant amount of blood and collapsed shortly after reaching his home.
Neighbors, witnessing the situation, promptly called emergency services. Paramedics arrived within minutes and attempted to stabilize the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have arrested a 40-year-old man suspected of being involved in the attack, who is currently in custody. While the weapon has not yet been recovered, law enforcement is optimistic about utilizing the extensive surveillance system in the area to aid their investigation.
