Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has outlined significant obstacles facing the country in its efforts to reclaim territories currently occupied by Russian forces. In a recent interview with the BBC, he identified two primary factors hindering immediate action: a shortage of personnel and a lack of sufficient weaponry.
Zelensky emphasized that while Ukraine is committed to regaining its territories, the current military advantage held by Russia complicates the situation. He stated, “To do this today would mean losing a huge number of people—millions—because the Russian army is large, and we understand the cost of such steps. We would not have enough people. And what is land without people? Honestly, it is nothing.”
The president further explained that Ukraine does not possess the necessary military resources to swiftly liberate all occupied areas. He remarked, “This depends not only on us but also on our partners. As of today, we do not have this capability.”
Despite these challenges, Zelensky reiterated the importance of returning to Ukraine’s borders as they were in 1991, framing this goal as a matter of justice for the nation.
