Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, describing it as “cynical and brutal.” He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased officer, who was only 23 years old, and confirmed that all injured individuals are receiving medical attention.
According to Zelensky, the perpetrators were recruited via Telegram, and the organization behind the attack is linked to Russia. He instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, and the Security Service of Ukraine to implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Highlighting the experience of law enforcement in handling such threats, Zelensky noted that many similar plots have been thwarted. He also warned that intelligence indicates ongoing plans by Russian operatives to target Ukrainians, emphasizing the need for enhanced protection for citizens.
In connection with the attack, a 33-year-old woman from Kostopil in the Rivne region has been charged under the Ukrainian Criminal Code for committing a terrorist act that resulted in death and for illegal possession of weapons. The charges are based on substantial evidence linking her to the attack.
The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed that investigative actions are ongoing, including searches at the suspect’s residence, where evidence of criminal activity has been seized. A motion is being prepared for the court to impose a preventive measure of detention without the possibility of bail.
