Ukrainian Army Primarily Comprised of Mobilized Soldiers, Expert Says

The majority of the Ukrainian military is currently made up of mobilized soldiers, according to Ivan Timochko, head of the Reserve Council of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. In a recent interview, he emphasized the effectiveness of these troops in combat operations against Russian forces.

Timochko noted that mobilized personnel are actively engaged on the front lines, operating drones that target critical Russian infrastructure, including oil refineries and military repair facilities. He stated, “These mobilized soldiers are responsible for downing Russian aircraft and directing missiles at factories producing drones and other military equipment.”

He further explained that many of these mobilized soldiers are now sharing their expertise with operators in the Middle East, helping them learn defensive tactics.

Timochko stressed the need to recognize that mobilized soldiers can be highly skilled fighters. He explained that regardless of their initial motivation for joining the military, whether through mobilization or voluntary enlistment, all soldiers undergo rigorous training that equips them with essential skills.

To mitigate fears and improve readiness, he pointed out the importance of preparing reserves and enhancing the general military knowledge among the civilian population. Understanding military operations can help prevent manipulation and misconceptions about the army, he added.

According to Timochko, a better understanding of military service will help dispel negative stereotypes about commanders and military leaders, who are often unfairly portrayed as ruthless figures. He remarked, “There is a perception that commanders are solely focused on sending soldiers to their deaths, which is far from the truth.”

He also mentioned that former mobilized soldiers, having completed their service, now view those who avoid military duty as evaders.

Mobilization Issues in Ukraine

In related news, Kirill Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, recently commented on potential changes in the mobilization process and the operations of Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRCs). He described the current system as chaotic but indicated that significant reforms are unlikely while the war continues.

Budanov advised against expecting substantial improvements from changes in the names or formats of TRCs, asserting that the core issues will remain unchanged.
