Ukrainian President Zelensky Meets Jordan’s King Abdullah II to Discuss Security Cooperation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently met with King Abdullah II of Jordan to explore potential security partnerships and discuss the broader situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region.

In a statement shared via social media, Zelensky emphasized Ukraine’s willingness to collaborate on defense against drone and missile attacks. He noted that effective protection of civilians and critical infrastructure requires a unified defense system, a necessity underscored by Ukraine’s ongoing conflict with Russia, which has involved the use of Iranian drones.

Zelensky remarked, “It is crucial that those to whom Ukraine offers its expertise can also assist us in strengthening our defenses.” He expressed gratitude to King Abdullah for the meeting and the openness to dialogue.

Prior to this meeting, Zelensky indicated that 228 Ukrainian specialists are currently in the Middle East, aiding local air defense forces in countering Iranian drone threats.

Additionally, he reported receiving 11 requests for security support from neighboring countries of Iran, as well as from European nations and the United States, aimed at countering Iranian threats such as the Shahed drones.

On March 28, Zelensky announced that Ukraine had signed a 10-year strategic cooperation agreement with Qatar and plans to establish a similar arrangement with the United Arab Emirates. He clarified that these agreements will cover arms production, experience sharing in military applications, and energy cooperation, while explicitly excluding the deployment of Ukrainian military personnel in foreign conflicts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan focused on enhancing security cooperation amid ongoing regional threats. Zelensky highlighted Ukraine's expertise in air defense and discussed recent agreements with Gulf nations to bolster military collaboration.
