Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Syrian leader Ahmad al-Sharaa during a visit to Damascus, where they engaged in bilateral discussions focusing on security cooperation. The meeting, which marks Zelensky’s first official visit to Syria, was announced via his Telegram channel.
In his statement, Zelensky noted, “We agreed to work together to enhance security and development opportunities for our societies. We discussed the regional situation and prospects for improvement. We also addressed the circumstances surrounding Russia’s war against Ukraine and expressed gratitude for Syria’s support. There is significant interest in exchanging military and security experiences.”
Additionally, the two leaders talked about Ukraine’s role as a reliable supplier of food products and explored joint efforts to strengthen food security across the region. Zelensky emphasized the understanding of Syria’s current energy and infrastructure challenges, stating, “We are ready to collaborate to increase the capabilities of our states and peoples.”
On April 4, Zelensky visited Turkey, where he met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to discuss new measures for security cooperation between Kyiv and Ankara. This series of meetings underscores Ukraine’s efforts to engage with regional partners amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.
