Ukraine’s Zelensky Discusses Military Collaboration with U.S. on Drone Defense

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that American military officials have reached out to Ukraine regarding expertise in countering Iranian-made drones known as ‘Shaheds.’ This communication took place during a press interaction on March 14.

Zelensky noted that there have been multiple inquiries from the U.S., either seeking assistance for other nations or for American forces themselves. He stated, “Our military is in contact at various levels. We have received letters, calls, and requests from all military institutions.” He confirmed that Ukraine has responded to these requests.

Furthermore, Zelensky mentioned that he has discussed the issue of Ukrainian expertise in defending against Shahed drones with leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Bahrain. He emphasized that Ukraine is not engaged in a conflict with Iran, clarifying that the discussions involving Ukrainian military expertise pertain to defense strategies.

In a related note, U.S. President Donald Trump remarked on March 13 that the United States does not require Ukraine’s assistance to intercept Iranian drones in the Middle East. Zelensky dismissed this comment as mere rhetoric.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed ongoing military communications with the U.S. regarding counter-drone strategies. He highlighted discussions with Middle Eastern leaders and clarified Ukraine's non-combat stance towards Iran.
