Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine has implemented a new sanctions package targeting Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. Zelensky criticized Lukashenko for compromising Belarusian sovereignty to maintain his power and for assisting Russia in circumventing international sanctions.
In a statement on Telegram, Zelensky emphasized, “Today, Ukraine has applied a sanctions package against Alexander Lukashenko, and we are significantly intensifying our efforts to counter all forms of his support for the killing of Ukrainians. We will collaborate with our partners to ensure this has a global impact.”
According to Zelensky, Russian forces have deployed relay systems in Belarus to control strike drones, enhancing their capacity to conduct attacks on Ukraine’s northern regions, including Kyiv and Volyn, in the latter half of 2025.
He noted that some attacks, particularly on energy infrastructure and railways, would not have been possible without Belarus’s assistance.
Additionally, Zelensky reported that over 3,000 Belarusian enterprises are currently aiding the Russian war effort by supplying critical technology, equipment, and components, including those used in missile production that threaten Ukrainian cities and villages.
He also mentioned ongoing infrastructure development in Belarus for the deployment of medium-range missiles, which pose a threat not only to Ukraine but to all of Europe. “Lukashenko has provided Belarusian territory for these missiles. Last year, Belarusian companies supplied critical parts and mechanical bases for this weaponry, and this continues into 2026,” Zelensky stated.
Moreover, Lukashenko has been implicated in facilitating the forced deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.
Zelensky concluded by reiterating that Lukashenko’s actions in exchange for personal power, his support for Russian aggression, and his increasing involvement in the war will have significant consequences.
Ukraine has enacted sanctions against Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, citing his role in undermining Belarusian sovereignty and supporting Russian military efforts. President Zelensky highlighted the ongoing military collaboration between Belarus and Russia, emphasizing the implications for both Ukraine and Europe.
