Explosions Target Police Buildings in Dnipro and Lviv, Investigation Underway

Authorities in Ukraine have confirmed an explosion at a police administrative building in Dnipro on February 23, around 8:30 PM local time. No injuries were reported, but the blast caused damage to windows, furniture, and computer equipment within the facility, as well as a nearby parked vehicle.

The National Police’s press service stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. This explosion marks the second such event in a single day near police facilities in the region.

Earlier that day, another explosion occurred at a decommissioned gas station in Dnipro, where a homemade explosive device detonated. At the time, patrol police officers were present on site for a shift change. Reports indicate that seven police officers were injured in this earlier incident, with one in critical condition. Authorities are treating this case as a terrorist act.

Ivan Vyhivskyi, head of the National Police, described the explosions in Dnipro, Lviv, and Mykolaiv as a “targeted attack on the law enforcement system aimed at destabilizing the situation within the country.” On February 22, a series of blasts in Lviv resulted in the death of one police officer and injuries to 25 others, including both law enforcement personnel and civilians.

A criminal investigation has been initiated under Article 258, Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which addresses terrorist acts resulting in severe consequences. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is leading the preliminary investigation in Lviv.

On the same day, authorities announced the arrest of a suspected perpetrator linked to the Lviv explosions, who has since been remanded in custody by a court. President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Ukrainian intelligence indicates ongoing plans by Russia to carry out further terrorist acts within Ukraine.

Recent explosions targeting police buildings in Dnipro and Lviv have raised concerns about a coordinated attack on law enforcement in Ukraine. Investigations are ongoing as authorities respond to the incidents, which have resulted in injuries and fatalities among police personnel.
