On Wednesday morning local time, near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, drone and rocket attacks resumed, marking a significant escalation in hostilities. These incidents occurred around the same time as a series of attacks on U.S. interests in the region.
According to a local security official, the attacks caused some damage in the vicinity of the embassy, which is situated in Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone. Fortunately, two rockets aimed at the embassy were intercepted by defense systems, preventing further destruction.
Since the initiation of a military campaign by the U.S. and Israel against Tehran nearly three weeks ago, the embassy and other U.S.-related sites have faced a continuous barrage of drone and rocket strikes. In response to the escalating threats, the embassy ordered all non-essential personnel to evacuate for safety reasons earlier this month.
Prior to this, on Tuesday morning, similar attacks targeted both the U.S. Embassy and a hotel in Baghdad, underscoring the ongoing volatility in the region.
Recent drone and rocket attacks near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad highlight escalating tensions in the region. The U.S. has faced consistent threats since launching military operations against Iran, prompting security measures including the evacuation of non-essential staff.
