Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concern that the prolonged military engagement of the U.S. and Israel against Iran could further weaken American support for Ukraine.
He emphasized that Ukraine urgently requires additional Patriot missile systems to counter daily Russian attacks, noting that there are currently no effective alternatives for intercepting ballistic missiles.
Zelensky acknowledged that with the new conflict in the Middle East, Ukraine is no longer at the forefront of international attention. He fears that the ongoing situation in Iran could lead to a reduction in U.S. assistance.
“We must recognize that today we are not a priority,” the Ukrainian leader stated. “Therefore, I fear that a prolonged war in Iran will result in decreased support for us.”
The president also pointed out that the supply of Patriot systems and missiles to Ukraine has been insufficient from the outset. If hostilities against Iran do not conclude swiftly, even the current aid package, which he described as modest, may shrink further.
“This is why we are, of course, concerned,” Zelensky concluded.
Additionally, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth previously indicated that current military supply issues, particularly regarding arms transfers to Ukraine, stem from decisions made by the previous administration. He mentioned that Washington is reassessing its approach to defense resource allocation and stresses the need to replenish stocks quickly while supporting both Ukraine and military actions against Iran.
