Ukraine and Syria to Reopen Embassies Amid Diplomatic Talks

The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Syria have announced plans to reopen their embassies in Kyiv and Damascus, respectively. This decision follows a meeting between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad, during which they discussed several key issues affecting both nations.

Sybiha emphasized the importance of security cooperation between Europe and the Middle East. He stated, “We will continue our joint efforts to achieve lasting peace for our peoples,” highlighting the interconnectedness of regional stability.

The ministers also addressed logistical matters, including the development of trade and maritime routes, which they identified as areas with significant potential for enhancing economic collaboration. Sybiha noted that bilateral trade has increased ninefold since the signing of a joint communiqué aimed at restoring diplomatic relations.

Food security emerged as a critical topic during the discussions. Sybiha reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to contributing to regional stability through initiatives such as the “Grain from Ukraine” program, aimed at supporting food supplies.

Furthermore, the two officials explored opportunities for humanitarian and educational cooperation. Sybiha pointed out that many Syrian students have studied in Ukraine and continue to do so, providing a strong foundation for future collaboration.

In conclusion, Sybiha stated, “We have agreed to reopen our embassies in the near future, marking an important step in strengthening our partnership.” This development reflects a renewed commitment to diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

Ukraine and Syria have announced plans to reopen their embassies as part of renewed diplomatic efforts. The discussions included topics such as security, trade, and educational cooperation, indicating a desire for closer ties between the two countries.
