Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new defense partnership with Qatar, set to last for a minimum of ten years. This agreement was reached during a meeting in Doha with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
During the discussions, the leaders focused on enhancing security measures in both nations and formalized an agreement aimed at collaborative projects within the defense industry. Zelensky stated, “We discussed how to ensure greater protection of lives in our countries and agreed on a mutually beneficial partnership in the defense sector for at least ten years. Following our meeting, the chiefs of our general staffs signed a relevant agreement that outlines joint projects in the defense industry, the establishment of co-production, and technological partnerships between companies.”
Zelensky also briefed his Qatari counterparts on the ongoing security situation in Ukraine, emphasizing the persistent attacks from Russia and the close cooperation between Moscow and the Iranian regime. He remarked, “It is crucial for us to strengthen our air defense capabilities, and we are counting on corresponding support from our partners.”
Shortly after Zelensky’s announcement, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, confirmed the signing of the agreement and provided additional details. He stated that the agreement lays the groundwork for long-term security cooperation, particularly in countering modern aerial threats and enhancing defense capabilities.
Umerov added, “The document also outlines the development of joint projects, technological cooperation, and the attraction of investments in security solutions.”
