The Iranian government has reaffirmed its military cooperation with Russia and China, identifying these nations as strategic partners in its opposition to the United States and Israel. In an interview with MS NOW, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the depth of collaboration across various sectors, particularly in security.
Amir-Abdollahian stated, “We have had close cooperation in the past, which continues today, and this includes military assistance.” He characterized the relationship with Russia and China as one that encompasses political, economic, and military dimensions, particularly in the context of ongoing conflicts involving Washington and Jerusalem.
In related remarks, former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin might be aiding Iran as a countermeasure to U.S. support for Ukraine.
Amir-Abdollahian also addressed maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for global energy exports. He noted that tensions in this region have contributed to oil prices exceeding $100 per barrel. The Iranian government has reportedly implemented selective restrictions on vessel movements in these waters, allowing passage for ships from countries other than the U.S., Israel, and their allies.
In a recent statement, the Kremlin made it clear that Russia does not consider itself neutral in the Iran-Israel conflict. Russian Ambassador to the UK, Andrei Kelin, asserted Moscow’s official support for Tehran, labeling the actions of Western nations in this context as “unjust.”
Furthermore, Iranian authorities have acknowledged providing military assistance to Russia, a shift from previous attempts to downplay such cooperation. Tehran has confirmed that arms supplies and joint defense projects are integral to the strategic alliance between the two nations.
