Canada Reaffirms Support for Ukraine at Munich Security Conference

During a meeting at the Munich Security Conference, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand reiterated her country’s unwavering support for Ukraine and expressed readiness to contribute to multilateral security guarantees.

The meeting took place from February 13 to 15 in Germany, where Anand affirmed Canada’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. She indicated that Ottawa is prepared to engage in multilateral security arrangements for Ukraine through the Coalition of the Willing.

Anand also emphasized Canada’s intention to intensify economic pressure on Russia to hinder its capacity to continue the conflict. The discussions included efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, focusing on the development of the peace process.

Additionally, the ministers addressed Canada’s ongoing role in the repatriation of Ukrainian prisoners of war, unlawfully detained civilians, and deported children. Canada co-chairs the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children alongside Ukraine.

Furthermore, Anand confirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting the reconstruction and recovery of Ukraine, which includes enhancing energy security.

At the Munich Security Conference, Canada reaffirmed its commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and pledged to enhance economic pressure on Russia. The discussions included multilateral security guarantees and efforts to repatriate Ukrainian prisoners and children.
