Today, buses, cars and trucks weighing up to 3.5 tons have started moving through the new Nyzhankovychi – Malkhovychi checkpoint, UNN reports, citing the Ministry of Development.

According to the agency, the joint checkpoint was opened on the Polish side with funding from the Polish side. Representatives of the customs and border guard services of Ukraine and Poland will work together at the checkpoint.

“The opening of the Nyzhankovychi – Malkhovychi checkpoint is an important step towards increasing the capacity of the Ukrainian-Polish border. The design capacity of the checkpoint provides for the possibility of processing about 50 buses and 2000 cars per day to leave Ukraine. It is important that the control services of both countries will operate at the same checkpoint. This will halve the time required to complete control measures, which in turn will speed up the time for both passengers and drivers, as well as cargo, to clear and cross the border. We thank our Polish colleagues for their efforts to open the checkpoint. We expect that this result will be felt primarily by people traveling abroad by car or bus,” said Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development, during the opening ceremony.

The eChezha system is already in place for buses at this checkpoint for exit from Ukraine. Therefore, passenger carriers must register in advance to cross the border on the website echerha.gov.ua or through the eCherga app. In addition to buses, cars and trucks up to 3.5 tons can also cross the checkpoint.

According to the agency, the modernization of the checkpoint was funded by the Polish side. On the Ukrainian side, the repair of the 46-kilometer section of the Nyzhankovychi-Sambir road leading to the new checkpoint was completed by the Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service in Lviv Oblast in 2023.
