Ukraine’s National Bank Adjusts Currency Rates: Dollar Surpasses 43 Hryvnias

The National Bank of Ukraine has updated its official exchange rate for February 18, marking an increase in the value of the US dollar, which now stands above the psychological threshold of 43 hryvnias.

Key Highlights:

  • Exchange Rate: The dollar is now valued at 43.25 UAH, reflecting an increase of 8 kopecks, while the euro remains stable at 51.16 UAH.
  • Eligibility: Currency exchange services are restricted to individuals aged 18 and over.
  • Documentation: Transactions exceeding 400,000 UAH require a passport and proof of income.
  • Cancellation Policy: Money can only be refunded within 15 minutes after the exchange.
  • Requirements for Refund: A receipt and the same cash register where the exchange took place are mandatory for refunds.

According to PrivatBank, only clients aged 18 and older can access currency exchange services. For transactions up to 400,000 UAH, no documentation is necessary, but larger amounts require income verification and identification.

Regarding the cancellation of currency exchanges, banks offer a ‘storno’ operation, which allows customers to reverse their transactions under specific conditions. To successfully cancel an exchange, three criteria must be met:

  • Time Limit: Customers have only 15 minutes after leaving the counter to initiate a cancellation; beyond that, the transaction is irreversible.
  • Receipt Requirement: A valid receipt from the transaction is required.
  • Location: Refunds must be processed at the same cash register where the exchange occurred.

Is a written request necessary? No, a verbal request along with the receipt is sufficient for processing a refund.
