Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukraine is prepared to assist Middle Eastern nations in defending against Iranian attacks. This initiative involves deploying Ukrainian experts to the region, with ongoing discussions aimed at ensuring that such support does not compromise Ukraine’s own defense capabilities.
Zelensky emphasized the readiness of Ukrainian military personnel, stating, “Our military possesses the necessary capabilities. Ukrainian experts will work on-site, and teams are already coordinating on this matter. We are ready to help protect lives, safeguard civilians, and support genuine efforts to stabilize the situation, including ensuring safe shipping in the region.” This statement followed a meeting focused on the escalating situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
The Ukrainian government is currently engaged in consultations with partners in Europe and the United States, as well as neighboring countries to Iran. Zelensky has reported discussions with leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
The backdrop to these developments includes a recent joint operation by the United States and Israel, which resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials within the Iranian regime. This operation, executed on February 28, marked a significant escalation in hostilities.
In retaliation, Iranian military forces have launched missile and drone attacks not only against Israel and U.S. military installations in the region but also against several neighboring countries that Tehran views as U.S. allies. This has raised concerns about regional stability and security.
As a consequence of these Iranian strikes, six U.S. military personnel have been reported killed, alongside civilian casualties in affected countries. The human rights organization HRANA has documented 1,097 civilian deaths and 5,402 injuries, including those among children, in Iran alone between February 28 and March 3. The group also reported damage to military bases, medical facilities, and residential areas across the country.
The ongoing conflict and its implications for regional security continue to be a focal point for international discussions, with the European Union also seeking solutions to mitigate the impact of events in Iran on military supply chains to Ukraine.
Ukraine's President Zelensky has announced plans to assist Middle Eastern nations in defending against Iranian attacks, deploying experts to the region while ensuring Ukraine's own defense remains intact. This follows significant escalations in hostilities, including the recent death of Iran's Supreme Leader and retaliatory strikes affecting regional stability.
