Russian Defense Minister Acknowledges Threat to Ural Region from Ukraine

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has acknowledged that the Ural region is now within the direct threat zone of Ukrainian military operations. Previously considered safe from aerial strikes, the region’s status has changed significantly amidst ongoing conflict.

Shoigu stated, “Yes, not long ago, the Ural was out of reach for airstrikes from Ukrainian territory, but today it is in a zone of direct threat.” This admission highlights a shift in the dynamics of the conflict, particularly regarding the capabilities of Ukrainian forces.

On February 20, Ukrainian forces targeted the Votkinsk plant, known for producing Iskander missiles. Reports indicate that the attack utilized domestically produced Flamingo missiles, which traveled approximately 1,400 kilometers to reach their target.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that all launched missiles successfully struck the Russian missile manufacturing facility. According to open-source intelligence analysts, the missiles impacted building number 19, which houses the galvanizing and stamping shop. They noted a significant breach in the roof, measuring approximately 30 by 24 meters.

Further analysis of the damage suggests that the explosion’s epicenter was likely inside the building, resulting in extensive destruction of the interior spaces. This incident underscores the evolving military capabilities of Ukraine and the potential implications for Russian defense strategies.

The acknowledgment by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu of a direct threat to the Ural region from Ukraine marks a significant shift in the conflict's dynamics. The recent missile strike on a Russian facility illustrates Ukraine's expanding military capabilities and raises questions about regional security.
