In response to Ukraine’s growing collaboration with Gulf nations, particularly following Iranian air strikes, Russia has initiated a disinformation campaign aimed at undermining Ukraine’s influence in the region.
Moscow’s concerns stem from Ukraine’s enhanced position in the Persian Gulf, which has been highlighted by its partners recognizing Ukraine’s expertise in air defense and security amidst Iranian aggression.
According to Minister Sybiha, Russia has resorted to propaganda tactics to counteract this influence.
Russia’s disinformation efforts include various false narratives:
- Claims that Ukrainian experts have suffered losses or injuries;
- Allegations that Ukraine is failing to meet its commitments to partners.
“We anticipate more such nonsense in the coming weeks,” the minister stated.
Sybiha expressed confidence that these propaganda efforts will be ineffective, as Gulf nations are closely observing Ukraine’s contributions to building a modern and effective defense system.
Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent visit has reportedly laid the groundwork for a long-term mutually beneficial partnership.
“We view this Russian disinformation campaign as evidence of Moscow’s acknowledgment of Ukraine’s success and its own failures,” Sybiha concluded.
Meanwhile, Russia continues to employ various disinformation strategies. Reports indicate that Russian drones have dropped counterfeit banknotes in Sumy and Chernihiv regions, featuring calls to disclose Ukrainian positions and messages aimed at undermining the government.
The fake currency also contained QR codes directing individuals to hostile resources.
Russia's disinformation campaign against Ukraine has intensified as Ukraine strengthens ties with Gulf nations amid Iranian air threats. Despite these efforts, Ukrainian officials believe the campaign will fail, as Gulf countries recognize Ukraine's defense capabilities.
