During her speech at the UN Security Council meeting, Deputy Permanent Representative of the US to the UN Dorothy Camilla Shea warned that the participation of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine allows the DPRK to gain important combat experience, which increases its readiness for military actions against neighboring countries.
According to Shi, more than 12,000 North Korean soldiers are currently in Russia, where they are actively involved in hostilities in the Kursk region. This fact confirms the close cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang, the American diplomat noted.
North Korea benefits greatly from the supply of Russian military equipment, technology and combat experience, making it more capable of waging war against its neighbors
Dorothy Camille Shea also warned that North Korea is likely to use these improvements to boost arms sales and military training contracts around the world.
At the same time, North Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations, Kim Son, justified the latest test of a hypersonic missile as part of the country’s defense program. He accused the US of double standards, mentioning the situation in Gaza.
In response to this, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasyl Nebenzia, rejected the US accusations regarding the transfer of satellite and space technologies to Pyongyang, calling them “absolutely baseless”. During the meeting, he also congratulated North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on his birthday.
South Korean Ambassador Hwang Junkook has described North Korean soldiers as “Kim Jong-un’s slaves” who sacrifice their lives on distant battlefields to provide the regime with finance and advanced technology from Russia.
It is noted that despite the UN sanctions, which have been in effect since 2006 and are aimed at stopping the development of nuclear weapons by Pyongyang, Russia continues to block their strengthening, using the right of veto in the Security Council.
Intense cooperation between Russia and North Korea poses new threats to regional security and calls into question the effectiveness of international efforts to limit Pyongyang’s military ambitions.
We will remind
US Secretary of State Blinken announced Russia’s intentions to share advanced space technologies with North Korea. This may happen after the DPRK provided military support to the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine.
