Russian officials have repeatedly denied any direct contact with the United States to prepare a phone call between Trump and Putin, which would precede a possible meeting at the end of this year.
However, high -ranking Russian officials have visited both Saudi Arabia and the UAE in recent weeks, according to Russian sources, which have spoken on the conditions of anonymity due to the delicacy of the situation.
One source reported that in Russia there is still some counteraction to this idea, as some diplomats and intelligence staff indicate close military and power ties that are in the kingdom and the UAE with the United States.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE did not respond to requests. The Kremlin refused to comment. But both Trump and Putin have established a friendly relationship with the rulers of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, the publication states.
Trump stated on Sunday that his administration “planned meetings and talks with various sides, including Ukraine and Russia.” When asked about these comments, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the contacts were “obviously planned.”

The Secret Prince of Saudi Arabia Muhammad Ibn Salman was the first foreign head of state to whom Trump called after joining the post.
Both Muhammad Ibn Salman and the UAE President Muhammad Bin Zaid Al Nagyan kept neutrality throughout the war in Ukraine, refraining from accession to the West in criticism and sanctions against Russia, the newspaper notes.
Both leaders are reportedly maintained regular contacts with President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
None of the countries are a member of the International Criminal Court that issued a Rutin arrest warrant, preventing him with visits to a number of countries, including Brazil and South Africa.
“At the current stage, Russian sources excluded Turkey, a member of NATO, who had received the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in March 2022, as a possible venue,” the newspaper writes.
Russian analyst Fyodor Lukyanov, influential scientific director of the Valdai discussion club, whose members regularly meet with Putin, said that Trump and Putin have no special choice.
“Almost the entire event is attracted to Ukraine. Therefore, all traditional sites where things such as Helsinki, Geneva and Vienna have happened before,” – quoted by Rosm.
Lukyanov noted that although Saudi Arabia and the UAE play a very important role, both countries are very close allies of the United States, which raises some issues of the Russian side.
“However, as a place for negotiations, it is probably quite possible,” he added.
