“This is a meeting in the Weimar+ format. As you know, the Weimar Triangle is a formula for cooperation between Poland, Germany and France. But since times are demanding and the problems are dramatic, we have also invited other countries and the future high representative. My friend Andrii Sybigu (Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine – ed.), and I hope he will be able to attend. If not, I will inform him about the results,” said Sikorskyi.
The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry emphasized that the situation in Ukraine is quite complicated and mentioned Russia’s attempts to destroy the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
“Putin is doing this to show that he still intends to impose his decision on Ukraine. He is trying to strengthen his position by causing a wave of refugees from Ukraine to the EU. We need to think and discuss contingencies about what to do to help Ukraine to strengthen its position in the negotiations, if this happens,” Sikorskyi summarized.
The top official of Poland also welcomed the probable decision of the US administration to allow Ukraine to strike with long-range weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation.
“Ukraine is a victim of aggression according to international law, the UN Charter, the decisions of the UN General Assembly. We are not only obliged to condemn the aggressor, we also have the duty to take countermeasures against the aggressor and bring him back into compliance with international law,” Sikorsky noted.
