“In the USA, the conditions under which they will support negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine were announced. The US State Department stated that it will support Ukraine’s negotiations with the Russian Federation only at Zelensky’s decision, without external pressure. Miller emphasized that Putin has not yet shown a willingness to abandon the occupation of Ukrainian territories.”, — write on: unn.ua
To the question, against the background of the statements of the newly elected President Trump, who declared the resolution of the “conflict” in the first 24 hours of being in office, whether the United States will facilitate negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on ending the war in Ukraine in the last two months of the administration, if both sides express ready to start negotiations, Miller replied:
“If President Zelensky decides that he wants to enter into negotiations, of course, that is what we will support. This has been our policy – our long-standing policy, according to which President Zelensky decides when it is time for negotiations. This is not what we or any other country should push him. And we will support him in any process to try to secure a just and lasting peace, but it is ultimately his decision, not ours.”
Miller noted that the US has seen no signs from Putin that he is ready to abandon his demand to continue absorbing Ukrainian territory.
“You can just look at the statements that he keeps making – we haven’t seen any indication from Vladimir Putin that he’s willing to back down from his demand to continue to absorb Ukrainian territory. I’m sure there are negotiations that Putin will agree to if he gets all , what he wants, and Ukraine will not get anything to which it is entitled by law, but these are not negotiations in which President Zelensky was interested, and they should not be,” Miller said.
