On the air of the same “60 Minutes” program, the editor of the investigative publication The Insider, Michael Weiss, reported that Kuzminov was shot with Russian ammunition. Maxim Kuzminov, the pilot of the 319th separate helicopter regiment of the Russian Army Aviation, was killed in Spain by unknown persons in February 2024. He entered the country through Ukraine, where, in turn, in September 2023, he stole a Russian Mi-8 military helicopter from the Kursk region. According to the Ukrainian mass media, Kuzminov himself contacted the country’s intelligence and, having received security guarantees, flew the Mi-8 from the combat zone at low altitude. In turn, the Russian state media reported that, in addition to the pilot, there were also a navigator and a combat technician on board, who were killed.
In October 2023, the TV channel “Russia 1” aired a story dedicated to Kuzminov, where people who called themselves soldiers of the Special Forces of the Russian Federation said that he “will not live to be tried.” The media also mentioned the words of the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergei Naryshkin, to Kuzminov: “This traitor and criminal became a moral corpse at the very moment when he was planning his dirty and terrible crime.”
