According to the investigation, on September 19, 2024, at around 3:40 p.m., the occupiers launched an airstrike on the territory of a geriatric boarding house in the city of Sumy. At the time of the attack, there were 221 patients, more than 80 of whom were bedridden, and 60 staff members.
Another bomb fell on the garage cooperative. 15 garages and 10 cars were damaged. Prosecutors, in cooperation with other law enforcement officers, document the consequences of the shelling.
Under the procedural leadership of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The Sumy Regional Military Administration stated that as of 7 p.m., one person was killed and 13 were injured of varying degrees of severity.
The headquarters for liquidation of the consequences of an enemy air strike has been deployed. Boarding house patients were evacuated to places specially prepared for them, where all the necessary conditions were created. People are provided with medical and psychological assistance.
