The USA is introducing the first large-scale sanctions against the largest Russian oil and oil service companies, in particular Surgutnaftogaz and Gazprom Nafta.

This was reported in the press service of the US Ministry of Finance.

Such giants of the Russian oil and gas industry as:

  • Surgutnaftogaz”
  • “Gazprom Nafta”
  • “Ingosstrakh”
  • “Alpha Insurance”
  • “Radcomflot”

The sanctions also affected managers and representatives of key energy structures:

  • Serhii Kudryashov, general director of Zarubizhnafta
  • Roman Marshavin and Eduard Sheremetsev, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation
  • Oleksiy Likhachev, director of Rosatom

New restrictions:

  • The sub-sanctioned list includes more than 183 tankers, including the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation, which are used to transport oil.
  • The sanctions affected the companies engaged in the insurance of sea transportation, in particular, “Ingosstrakh” and “Alphastrahuvannya”.
  • From February 27, 2025, American companies are prohibited from providing oil service services on the territory of Russia.

Geography of restrictions:
17 companies and 3 individuals from Hong Kong, Latvia, Liberia, the UAE and Russia, who are suspected of trading in Russian oil, were also included in the sanctions lists.

Scale and consequences:
This is only part of the introduced sanctions, which cover a significant part of the energy sector of the Russian Federation, including subsidiaries of regional companies. The restrictions are a response to Russia’s attempts to use energy resources as a tool of political pressure.

As ArmiyaInform reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with the current head of the OSCE, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Elina Valtonen, and discussed strengthening sanctions against the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation, which enables the aggressor state to finance the war.
