This year, the European Union has already handed Ukraine 980,000 artillery shells out of the promised million. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said this in an interview with “European Pravda”.
“We have already delivered more than 980,000 shells, and very soon we will hand over 1 million shells. I know that we made a commitment to reach this level by the spring – and we failed. But we will be able to by the end of the year. And for this, we have accelerated significantly,” said Josep Borrell.
He noted that, in addition, many ammunitions were delivered to Ukraine under bilateral agreements with member countries, as well as within the framework of the Czech initiative.
“In general, by the end of the year, we will deliver more than 1.5 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine,” said the head of EU diplomacy.
Josep Borrell also assured that the European Union is doing everything possible to continue supplying Ukraine with the same amount of ammunition next year.
“The problem was not in transferring what was available, but in production. When we promised to reach the level of 1 million shells per year by spring, we did not know what the real production capacity was, and it was not as large as we thought. Now we already have this production capacity,” he explained.
